Christmas can pose unexpected allergy challenges. The potential for allergic reaction lurks in Christmas decorations, Christmas trees, scented candles and even food. You don't have to hide from Christmas if you know
Trees... Artificial trees, which may harbour dust or mould, should be washed with a cloth or in hot soapy water to remove accumulated dust and mould before being assembled. Natural Christmas trees though not usually allergenic themselves may also habour moulds or pollens amidst their branches and needles. Spray down your natural tree with water outdoors and let it dry before you bring it into the house.
Ornaments... Christmas ornaments are yet another potential source of allergens. Stored away for most of the year in badly ventilated, damp or humid parts of the house, ornaments can easily accumulate dust and mould. It's a good idea to clean them outside before bringing into the house.
